Job Overview

We are seeking a  Press Secretary to join a  Republican political campaign . You’ll help shape message, pitch and place stories, staff interviews, and drive a disciplined, rapid-response press operation that breaks through local clutter and reaches voters where they are.

Schedule: This is a  six-day-a-week position with a  seven-day response posture . Evenings and most weekends required during peak periods and travel.

Core Responsibilities

  • Earned Media & Pitching: Build and maintain relationships with local and state reporters, editors, bookers, and talk radio producers; proactively pitch stories and secure coverage.
  • Writing & Collateral: Draft press releases, media advisories, statements, op-eds, and reporter pitches; maintain message discipline and clear approvals.
  • Rapid Response: Monitor news cycles and social feeds to identify opportunities and threats; draft timely responses and distribute to press and surrogates.
  • Press Events: Coordinate press conferences, gaggles, availabilities, and interview logistics; build daybooks, prepare site sheets, and manage press check-in. American Advertising Federation
  • Spokesperson Duties (as assigned): Serve on-the-record or on-background for targeted local outlets; prep principals and surrogates with briefs and Q&A.
  • Media List & Tracking: Maintain targeted press lists, manage inbound media requests, track placements, and compile daily clips and weekly coverage reports.
  • Cross-Team Coordination: Align with digital and field teams for message consistency; support content pulls (b-roll, quotes, stats) and ensure comms calendar integration.

Qualifications

  • 1-2 years in  political communications, media relations, or press operations (campaign, caucus, or government experience preferred).
  • Excellent writing and editing skills with a strong, concise news voice and clean AP style.
  • Demonstrated ability to  pitch reporters and shape coverage under tight deadlines.
  • Comfortable coordinating  press events/interviews and managing fast on-site logistics.
  • Cool under pressure with solid  crisis/rapid response instincts and judgment.
  • Familiarity with Arizona’s media landscape is a plus; Spanish-language media experience a bonus.
