Job Title: JavaScript Developer – Accessibility (React / Angular)
Location: Austin, TX (Hybrid Onsite)
Employment Type: 12+ Months Contract
Job Summary
We are seeking a JavaScript Developer with a strong focus on Accessibility (A11y) and hands-on experience in React and/or Angular frameworks. The ideal candidate will be responsible for building inclusive, performant, and user-friendly web applications that comply with WCAG 2.1 , ARIA standards , and Section 508 guidelines. This role involves collaborating closely with designers, UX researchers, and QA teams to ensure an accessible experience for all users.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and optimize JavaScript-based web applications using React and/or Angular .
- Implement and enforce web accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1, ARIA, Section 508) across all UI components and workflows.
- Collaborate with UX and design teams to translate wireframes and mockups into accessible front-end interfaces.
- Conduct accessibility audits and code reviews to identify and fix usability and compliance issues.
- Integrate automated accessibility testing tools such as axe-core, Lighthouse, Deque, or Wave .
- Develop reusable, accessible UI components and design systems .
- Work with backend teams to ensure seamless integration and data flow.
- Stay current with emerging trends and best practices in JavaScript frameworks and accessibility standards .
- Provide mentorship and guidance to other developers on accessibility-first design and coding.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Strong proficiency in JavaScript (ES6+) , HTML5, and CSS3.
- Hands-on experience with React.js and/or Angular (including hooks, components, directives, and state management).
- Deep understanding of Accessibility (A11y) principles, guidelines, and assistive technologies (e.g., screen readers, keyboard navigation).
- Experience applying WCAG, ARIA roles, semantic HTML , and best practices for inclusive design.
- Familiarity with automated accessibility testing tools (axe-core, Lighthouse, Pa11y, etc.).
- Knowledge of responsive design and cross-browser compatibility .
- Strong debugging, performance optimization, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with version control systems like Git/GitHub.
- Ability to work collaboratively in Agile/Scrum environments.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with TypeScript .
- Familiarity with Next.js , RxJS , or NgRx .
- Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and automated testing frameworks (Jest, Cypress, Playwright) .
- Understanding of Design Systems and Component Libraries (e.g., Material UI, Chakra UI).
- Accessibility certification (e.g., IAAP CPACC or WAS ) is a plus.
