Job Description

Lead a Mission That Changes Lives Across Montana

Cancer Support Community Montana is seeking a dynamic, strategic, and mission-driven Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to lead our organization into its next chapter of growth and impact. This is a rare opportunity to guide a respected nonprofit with a statewide footprint, a dedicated team, and a deeply meaningful mission: uplifting and strengthening people impacted by cancer by providing support, fostering compassionate communities, and breaking down barriers to care.

Reporting directly to the Board of Trustees, the CEO will serve as the organization’s chief visionary, relationship-builder, and operational leader—ensuring CSCMT continues to thrive, expand access, and deliver high-quality services to individuals and families across Montana.

What You’ll Do

As CEO, you’ll provide both inspirational leadership and hands-on executive management across all aspects of the organization, including:

Mission & Organizational Leadership

  • Lead a growing, multi-site organization with a $1M+ annual budget and 10+ employees
  • Foster a strong, collaborative, mission-driven culture across chapters and outreach locations
  • Oversee consistent service delivery, data collection, and outcome measurement statewide

Development & Fundraising

  • Drive fundraising, grants, and capital campaigns in partnership with staff and Board
  • Build and steward relationships with individual, foundation, and corporate donors
  • Strengthen CSCMT’s financial sustainability and reserves

Board Partnership & Governance

  • Serve as a trusted partner to the Board of Trustees and its committees
  • Lead strategic planning and ensure execution of Board-approved priorities
  • Provide timely, accurate information and recommendations to support Board decisions

External Relations & Visibility

  • Act as CSCMT’s chief spokesperson with media, partners, and the public
  • Represent the organization at events, conferences, and national CSC meetings
  • Oversee marketing, communications, and public relations strategy

Financial & Operational Oversight

  • Ensure fiscal integrity, compliance, and long-term financial health
  • Build and manage the annual budget with Board approval
  • Provide executive oversight of HR, operations, and administrative functions

What We’re Looking For

We’re seeking a confident, compassionate, and business-savvy leader who brings both heart and discipline to executive leadership.

Location: Based in one of CSCMT’s chapter locations | Statewide travel required
Status: Full-time, Exempt

Required & Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred (or equivalent experience)
  • 3+ years of experience as a CEO, Executive Director, or senior nonprofit leader
  • Proven success leading multi-site organizations and managing organizational growth
  • Experience working closely with a nonprofit Board
  • Strong fundraising, financial management, and people-leadership skills
  • Exceptional communication and public speaking ability
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively throughout Montana

Why Join CSCMT?

At Cancer Support Community Montana, you’ll lead a dedicated team doing work that matters—every day, in every community we serve. This role offers the opportunity to shape the future of cancer support services in Montana, build lasting partnerships, and make a profound difference in the lives of thousands of individuals and families.

If you’re a values-driven executive ready to combine strategic leadership with deep purpose, we invite you to apply.
